SCHENECTADY – Orega M. Gentiluomo, 88, entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her adoring family.
Orega was born on September 4, 1927 in Amsterdam a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherina Cincotta Cardarella. She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and Schenectady Beauty School. She worked as a beautician for many years. Orega's devout faith and strong devotion to her family was evident throughout her life. Her mastery in the kitchen, especially as a bakeress brought her much happiness. She loved to celebrate her heritage making Christmas cookies and Easter breads, but what she enjoyed most was sharing her treasures with her family and friends. Orega was a spiritual woman, living her faith by the religion she so cherished. She was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
Orega was predeceased by her parents and siblings; Douglas, Angelo, Sal, Anthony, Viola, Anna and Raymond Cardarella.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph A. Gentiluomo, who she married on May 15, 1949; her loving children, Paul Gentiluomo, and his wife Linda of Rotterdam and Diane Simone and her husband Anthony, of Niskayuna; adoring grandchildren, Anthony Simone, Jr. and his wife Kelly, Matthew Simone and his fiancé Julia Diskint, Aaron Simone, Mark Morris and David Morris and his wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Simone and Aria Morris; sisters, Connie Guadagno, and Gilda Samselski and her husband Steve, all of Amsterdam. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, and then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:30 am until the service.
Those wishing to make a floral tribute are asked to consider a bouquet of spring flowers, to celebrate Orega's beginning her new life.
