SCHENECTADY – Vivian F. Consalvo, 101, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Vivian was born in Schenectady on October 27, 1915, a daughter of the late Angelo and Maria (Dente) Consalvo.
She graduated from Nott Terrace High School, Class of 1933; she graduated from the College of St Rose in Albany with a
bachelor of science degree in chemistry. She began her career at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, retiring in the late '70's. She worked on the first nuclear reactor for the Sea Wolf as well as other classified projects.
Vivian was an accomplished golfer participating in various leagues in the area into her late 90's, as well as an avid lifelong bowler. Vivian enjoyed traveling and reading. She was a member of the GE Women's Club and GEAA.
Vivian was a spirited, faith-filled woman, devoted to her siblings and treasured by her family.
She was an ardent fan of her NY Yankees and remembered very vividly watching Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig play at Yankee Stadium. Vivian enjoyed being recognized on the Jumbotron at Yankee Stadium last year for her centennial. Vivian was a devoted life-long communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and an 80 year member of the Sacred Heart League.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Josephine Consalvo, Marion (Louis) Comenzo, Samuel Consalvo, Adeline Consalvo, Adalgisa (Fortuato) Nicodemi, Peter Consalvo, Armida Consalvo, Virgilio Consalvo, Arthur "Larry" Consalvo, nephew Louis A. Comenzo and great-great nephew Michael L. Collura.
Vivian is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Peter (Eileen) Nicodemi; Paul and Peter Consalvo, both of Stratford, CT; great nieces Ann (Gary) Whittmore; Carol D. (Russell) Collura; Susan A. Comenzo, Esq.; Jacqueline (Mel) Oliveira; Michael S. (Tamara) Nicodemi; great-great nephews Richard L. (Denise) Collura and Steven M. Oliveira, Jacob Nicodemi and great-great niece Caitlin Nicodemi; great-great-great nephews, Michael T. Collura and Christian L. Collura; also several cousins.
Vivian's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ambica D. Singh and her husband Ramnaresh Buchanna for the many years of excellent care and friendship they gave to Vivian.
Services will be held at 11:30am on Saturday from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St., and then to St. Anthony's Church where a Christian Mass of Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vivian's memory may be made to the Restoration Fund at St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place.
