ROTTERDAM- Robert Lee Newell, Sr., 84, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday evening at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born May 24, 1928 in Oneonta, a son of the late Julian and Mary Ingalls Newell. He was educated in Oneonta and located to Schenectady with his family. He honorably served for his Country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Bob was a plumber/steamfitter for the General Electric Company, retiring after 42 years of devoted service. He owned and operated Bellevue Heating and Cooling for many years with his son Robert. Bob was a member of the Electric City Riders Motor Cycle Club and a faithful communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish.
The Newell family would like to thank Community Hospice and Ellis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, for the kindness and compassion showed in caring for Robert.
Bob was predeceased by his loving daughter, Mary Ann Newell; siblings, Howard Newell, Russell Newell and Mildred Kennedy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, whom he married on August 8, 1948, 'Dolly' Antoinette Gazzillo Newell; his loving son Robert L. Newell, Jr., adoring grandchildren, Robert L. Newell, III, Amy Hild and her husband Kenneth, Jason DePasquale and his wife Sarah, Mary Newell and her fiancé Tobias Stay and Thomas Newell and his companion Danielle Brust; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Wilcox, Virginia Kiel, Betty McGinness and her husband Tony and Julian Newell, Jr. and his wife Eleanor; several nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets and then to Our Lady Queen of Peace where a mass will be celebrated at 9:30. Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Monday evening from 5 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
